BIOCITREES goal

BioCiTrees - 鈥淎n integrative understanding of the role that urban trees play for people and nature鈥 aims at identifying which tree species maximize the benefits of nature's contributions to people in the context of global change. We aim to support evidence-based recommendations for co-designing urban green areas that maximize people-nature co-benefits.

The project is financed by the European Commision within their Marie Sk艂odowska-Curie Actions, and involves the collaboration with researchers at the University of Granada and the National University of C贸rdoba, Argentina.

Objective 1

To identify the mechanisms by which the Urban Green Infrastructures (UGI, i.e., street trees, parks and urban forests) provide the benefits of Nature鈥檚 Contribution to People (NCP).

Objective 2

Understanding which tree species maximize NCP in the context of global change.

Objective 3

Providing support for establishing targets to develop UGIs that maximise NCP taking society鈥檚 preferences into account.

For designing an urban green areas that maximises 鈥媎ifferent benefits, it is necessary to understand the mechanisms by which nature provides such benefits.


The data collected in BioCiTrees will create a unique opportunity to comprehensively understand plant traits-NCP relationships through a plural valuation of nature having the great potential to contribute to better-informed formulation of public policies.
